When I moved to New York for work, I knew that it would be a hard transition. I am a Canadian, and it was the first time that I had even been outside of my country for a visit, let alone to relocate. It only took a couple of hours by airplane to get from my old home to my new home, but it felt like a lot farther. I suppose part of the reason is because New York seems like its own little territory. All of the news that I was reading about had to do either with New York City or international news.

I started to look at the website of my former hometown paper, and it was just what the doctor ordered. In the New York paper, I was reading news about things I knew very little about. Reading news from my former area made me feel like I was still connected there. I was able to access all of the news that was making me homesick.
