When people have colds, they think that the cause of nasal congestion is the accumulation of mucous.   • Inhaling steam

Steam inhalation is one of the best ways to get rid of nasal congestion. This is done in many households and even in some hospitals. What you need to do is to get hot water and inhale the steam. A lot of people do steam inhalation over boiling water but this can be dangerous since the steam can be too hot. If you think that you can tolerate this then you can inhale steam through this method.

  • Do mouth breathing

Mouth breathing is not hard to do but it can be very tricky since we are all used to breathing nasally. If you breathe through your mouth, you are preventing strain or trauma to your mucous membrane. You need to drink plenty of water for this because it may dry up your mouth.

  • Taking a rest and eating fruits

Rest is very good and you need to take some in order to relieve your congestion. People usually go for medications for instant relief but in reality, all they ever need is to take a good night’s rest. Eating fruits will improve this since fruits have a lot of vitamins and minerals which can prevent stress.

Although these methods are very effective, they may not be of any use at all if ever the cause of the problem is infection or allergy. You need to get antibiotics and antihistamines in these cases in order to relieve the infection otherwise breathing nasally would be impossible.
